Course Objective/Goals

This course demonstrates strategies that are ideally suited to students in grades 3-5. Lessons include how to: use a range of texts to teach students to read for greater understanding, strengthen students' use of author's craft and text structure to increase their comprehension, and enhance students' ability to draw evidence from text and explain it orally and in writing.

This training program contains highly effective strategies and techniques that you can easily implement in their own reading instruction to help students meet or exceed Common Core standards for reading in grades 3-5.

You will learn how to:

  • Use a variety of texts, including passages from challenging grade-level texts to engage students in reading closely for greatest understanding
  • Implement strategic questions and tasks to strengthen students’ comprehension
  • Maximize the power of whole class, small-group, paired conversations and individual instruction to actively engage students in reading, discussing and responding to text
